LACDC's Winter Intensive focuses on students studying the movement vocabularies of the same three teachers over the course of four days. Those taking the full intensive will perform in a FREE showcase for the LA community on the last day.  In the creation in-process workshops, the faculty create a new work on the students.

LACDC's Summer Intensive immerses you in the LACDC company experience where you will have the opportunity to train and explore with a diverse group of teachers in an open and supportive environment, where your uniqueness is celebrated. You will dive into daily classes in a variety of contemporary dance styles that will encourage your versatility as a dancer and awaken your experimental spirit as an artist.  While working alongside other advanced pre-professional and professional dancers, you will have the opportunity to expand upon your current training and try new techniques that challenge, strengthen and advance your abilities as a well-rounded contemporary performer.  The program also focuses on LACDC's value of community and the group dynamic in the creative process.  We encourage a collective experience and artistic achievement as a group throughout the two-week intensive. The difference between each week is that there is a new set of teachers to work with.  Students have the option to sign up for either week or both weeks.  Students taking only the second week have the option of performing select material at the showcase.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

15-17 YEAR OLD APPLICATION

The Winter Intensive typically attracts students from around the world, including pre-professionals (college & high school students) as well as professional movers. Our age demographic ranges on average from 15-35.  Students are normally seeking advanced-level classes taught in a fast-paced environment.  They are hungry for information, and want to expand beyond the styles they are comfortable with. We often find that they are searching for ways to feel more confident in who they are inside of dance and leave with a renewed sense of self.

No, you are not required to be a professional dancer or enrolled in a college/pre-professional dance program to attend this intensive. We welcome advanced dancers (ages 18+) who are passionate about and committed to advancing their training in a variety of movement styles. There is no maximum age limit. Dancers aged 15-17 may be accepted through an application process.

Drop-in classes are only the first two classes of the day. If you are a part of the full intensive program, you will receive a third class which will be repertory work taught by one of our Guest Faculty, a one-on-one feedback session, one LACDC Logo Shirt, and a chance to perform the work and phrases you learn throughout the week.

While our intensive is designed for advanced dancers and follows a fast-paced curriculum, we choose not to hold auditions in order to provide more access points to high-level training.  By not requiring auditions, we make high-level training more accessible to a broader range of dancers, regardless of their previous experience or background.

We want to invest in every dancer's potential, rather than limiting our program to a select few.  We believe in offering opportunities to dancers who are passionate about advancing their skills, regardless of whether they fit a particular "audition profile."

Our goal is to help each individual thrive.  We focus on fostering a collaborative and supportive learning environment, where dancers can feel confident to grow.

We respect the privacy and sanctity of studying together in a class environment. Therefore, we will not be allowing anyone to observe class.

I was really drawn to the versatility and variety within the schedule that offered a wide range of technical classes as well as combinations and rep from well versed and intentional faculty. -SI Student

I thoroughly enjoyed every single teacher and class. There was such an emphasis on education and study, rather than purely performance, and it gave me the space to feel safe to really explore new pathways and experiment alone and with others. -SI Student

I would describe this program as an immersive, relational, intentional, caring, versatile, and explorative opportunity to deepen one's individuality and work within their craft. -SI Student

Thank you to LACDC for giving us such an open space these past few weeks.  It’s been so wonderful being able to explore and go deeper in my passion in such a safe space.  I’m just so grateful that dance gives us a community of people who just get it.  I literally can’t see my life any other way.  — Nicole Flores

I’ve had such an amazing two weeks at LACDC’s intensive!!  I’ve learned so much about myself and what I need to work on all while meeting the sweetest humans.  We learned so many styles at this intensive, but of course hip hop was my favorite. :)  — Chelsea Raymond

I cannot put into words how thankful I am to have been a part of such a refreshing and fulfilling experience. I’ve met so many wonderful souls I hope to dance with again. — Ally Pawlowski

Absolutely loved this intensive last year! I was travelling from Australia and this experience was priceless! My movement vocabulary and skill evolved from start to finish and all the choreographers were incredibly inspiring. I still utilise the exercises and improv practices to this day ❤️ highly recommend xx -SI Student

The chances of students getting off the waiting list depend on the number of registered students who cancel their participation in the program.  We take people from the waiting list up until the first few days of the Intensive.  We have also been able to pull students from the waiting list every year, so it is beneficial to sign up for the waiting list if you still have a strong interest in training with LACDC.
