Choreography Residency with Spain
We are thrilled to announce that our collaborators at the Cultural Office of the Embassy of Spain were so pleased with our recent commissions featuring Mario Glez, Iker Karrera, and Elías Aguirre that they wanted to continue our partnership for the fourth consecutive year.
This December, the embassy will fly out Idoia Rodriguez, a Spanish choreographer selected by LACDC's artistic director Jamila Glass, to work with LACDC Artists in an 8-day residency that will culminate in a dance film directed by Glass. A live performance of Rodriguez's new work is expected on a future date beyond 2024.
SPAIN DANCES is a program that fosters and supports the presence of Spanish contemporary dance in the United States and the collaborations between US dance companies and Spanish choreographers are meant to create new work and exchange practices. 2021 was the first time they partnered with a dance company on the West Coast.
Rodriguez is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist who specializes in Urban Dance and is the co-director/choreographer for Navarra-based RIART Company. She has several titles that accredit her as one of the most recognized Spanish freestyle urban dancers at a national level.
