Lenin Fernandez, California native, began dancing at 18 at Mt. San Antonio College. The year after, he began training with Francisco Gella at Nuevo School of Contemporary Dance till 2014. In 2013, he attended the American Dance Festival and performed with 15 dancers in Twyla Tharp’s premiere of “Treefrog in Stonehenge.”
He has trained in the The Gypsy Project: LA under dir. Erica Sobol for three years learning from artists from Batsheva, Lines, Forsythe, NDT, and Crystal Pite. Early 2016, he performed in in two full-length works with Esklan Arts Factory, training under Erika Silgoner in Rome for three months.
He is currently working with Sonya Tayeh and last December was in her New York debut, “You’ll Still Call Me By Name," a work he’ll be performing at Jacob’s Pillow in 2018. In LA, he is currently a guest artist with LA Contemporary Dance Company and dances for Heidi Duckler Dance Theater, Arrogant Elbow (Sarah Elgart), Lobos Art Collective (Erica Sobol), and The Assembly. It has been an honor and humbling experience to be part of such radical processes these past years and he is excited to continue to experience and share.
